Spielberg's Dreamworks Interested in Buyin Film Rights to WikLeaks

WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange's War on SecrecyMatt Damon and Russell Crowe have emerged as the bookies' favourite to play Julian Assange in a movie based on the WikiLeaks founder's life.

The actors are 6-1 joint favorites to play the Australian website creator who's currently facing extradition from the UK to Sweden over allegations of rape and sexual assault.

Steven Spielberg's company Dreamworks have sparked the interest after purchasing film rights to two books, 'WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange's War on Secrecy', written by Guardian journalists David Leigh and Luke Harding, and 'Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange at the World's Most Dangerous Website' by Daniel Domscheit-Berg, leaving us speculating over who will land the lead role.

While New Zealand-born Russell Crowe grew up in Australia and wouldn't have to learn an accent for the part, American star Matt Damon has already proved he can master a foreign accent with his convincing performance as a South African in 'Invictus'.

British actors Jude Law, Daniel Craig and Michael Sheen are among the other actors on the bookies' list with Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney, Harrison Ford and Kevin Spacey also included. It would seem very unlikely that Charlie Sheen, a 66-1 outsider, would actually be considered for the role.

Julian Assange launched WikiLeaks in 2006 to give whistleblowers an online platform for exposing the truth. The site's exposure of private political conversations has landed him in trouble and made him public enemy No. 1 in several countries. In addition to the allegations in Sweden, the US is seeking to prosecute Assange.
