“When I got asked to do it I said ‘No thank you I don't think this is really for me,’” Hathaway said on ABC’s Good Morning America. “And then they called back a couple weeks later and said, ‘Well James Franco's in," and I said ‘Ooh, that is going to be interesting.’”
Franco, who is nominated for a Best Actor award for his performance in 127 Hours, made similar comments on the morning show, and even said some people told him not to do it.
"Everybody around me was saying no, don't do it. If you do, you won't get nominated," Franco said on the show. "I realized those were all reasons to do it. It took a lot of pressure off because I didn't have to worry about the nomination anymore."
Both the 32-year-old Franco and the 28-year-old Hathaway are the youngest people to ever host the prestigious awards ceremony.
According to reports, having the two young stars on the show is an attempt by its producers to draw in a younger crowd.
